This is something I've always felt should be included in wxWidgets
core, even if there isn't a "native" equivalent on some platforms. If
this turns out well, I will gladly help out where I can with getting
it included.

I had originally looked at the MyTimerCtrl originally referenced on
the wiki (back when it was still up -- and no, I don't seem to still
have a copy around, I looked), but it was far from complete.
