I'm really starting to hate solaris :) Every iconv-related bug is coming
from this platform.
Ok, here's what to do: go to http://www.freshmeat.net and search for libiconv. This
is an iconv replacement that works suprisingly well. After installing it,
add a few lines to your toplevel Makefile to -liconv -L/path/to/libiconv
