I'm not a developer, so I hope no-one minds me sticking my nose in. (In my defence I have been interested in wvWare for some time, and had hoped to be able to contribute, in particular with footnote support.) I'm almost certain that everyone knows about the other GPL'd word to {txt,ps} converter, antiword, but just in case no-one does, it's at http://www.winfield.demon.nl/. Compared to wv, it's very fast and the code looks a lot cleaner. On the other hand, I suspect this is partly because it's probably less flexible, e.g. the ps and txt output is hard-coded rather than going through the xml config files. Also I don't know how well it deals with graphics. Furthermore the latest version dates from the end of last year. If no-one has looked at the project, it might be worth looking at as inspiration for wv2. Just a thought, David |
