Leif, Yes, the drag and drop works when my app is run in the Wrapper in a console. It also works when the app is run directly in the JVM, without the Wrapper. It does not work when it is run in the Wrapper as a Service. I have no way to test whether it works properly in a service implemented without the Wrapper, but I assume the problem is inherent to running a GUI app as a service. There seems to be something about the Windows service environment that is disabling drag and drop. I was hoping that some setting in the Wrapper might solve the problem, though a search of the documentation and the mail archives did not reveal any such thing. It would also be nice to know if anyone else is able to implement Java drag and drop in a Wrapper-implemented service. Also, shouldn't the setting for enabling a service to interact with the desktop (wrapper.ntservice.interactive=true) cover this problem? If so, is there some other consideration I should be aware of regarding that setting? I did verify in the Windows service manager window that the interactive setting was enabled. I wonder if it could be related to me running the service as the local system account, while trying to do the drag and drop while logged in as my personal account. I changed the setting in the Windows Service Manager to run the app as my personal account. I restarted the service, and it looked normal in the service manager, but the GUI never showed up. Then I tried the same thing by changing the wrapper.conf file to run the service as my personal account wrapper.ntservice.interactive=false wrapper.ntservice.account=.\Mark wrapper.ntservice.password=myPassword And it behaved the same way. Looked as expected in the Service Manager window, but the GUI never showed up. -Mark Leif Mortenson wrote: > Mark, > That is not something I have tried personally. Mark,
That is not something I have tried personally. To be clear,
Drag and drop is not working when running as a service. Does
it work when running under the Wrapper in a console?
Cheers,
Leif

I have a Java Swing app that supports drag and drop. It works properly in stand-alone mode, but when I run it as a service via Wrapper, the drag and drop is disabled. When I drag a file that I should be able to drop, I get the circle with a slash icon. I have "wrapper.ntservice.interactive=true" in the Wrapper configuration file. Is there any other setting in Wrapper that might remedy this? I posted on the Sun java forums, but didn't get any responses. I'm hoping someone here might know how to make this work. -Mark |

Hi, I have some problems running the wrapper in RedHat 4. I downloaded wrapper-linux-x86-32-3.2.3.tar.gz, modified the config files, but when I start it, the machine get locked and the caps ans scroll ligths are blinking. I noticed that if I try the testwrapper, it works until I try to stop it, when the machine gets locked in similar fashion. Can somebody help me? Thanks. --------------------------------- The fish are biting. Get more visitors on your site using Yahoo! Search Marketing. |

Anastasios, Are you using the wrapper binary from the solaris distribution? If so, which version. The message is saying the a wrapper file exists, but the executable bit is not set. Make sure you have run: chmod +x wrapper Cheers, Leif Anastasios Angelidis wrote: > I'm trying to run the test wrapper on Solaris 10 SUN XFire 2100 AMD 64 > > First it tries to find the binary compatible wrapper either -32 or -64 > and then it finds the wrapper. > > And I get ./wrapper (found but not executable) > > Thanks > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------- > This SF.net email is sponsored by DB2 Express > Download DB2 Express C - the FREE version of DB2 express and take > control of your XML. Simon, Can you post your wrapper.conf file? Also if you are able to reproduce this, can you set the wrapper.debug=true property and post the resulting wrapper.conf file as well? >From what you posted, it looks like the Wrapper is detecting that the JVM is hung, at which point it should be killing and restarting the JVM process. Merri, The Wrapper is not able to read the values from your ini file. But it will work off of a master configuration file. You may be able to do something where you generate a wrapper-master.conf file with the values in your ini file to avoid having to make changes in two places. wrapper-master.conf: --- set.JRE_PATH=C:/jre/bin/java.exe set.PROP_1=C:/some_path/to_some_file set.PROP_2=C:/another_path/1.0 --- wrapper.conf: --- #include ../conf/wrapper-master.conf wrapper.java.command=%JRE_PATH% wrapper.java.classpath.1=%PROP_2%/wrapper.jar wrapper.java.classpath.2=%PROP_2%/xyz.jar wrapper.java.additional.1=-Dcom.testing.value=%PROP_1%/abc/xyz --- Cheers, Leif Merri Jensen wrote: > I'm not sure of the appropriate forum for this question so I thought I would start here first. > > The java applications I support use a common launcher.exe and launcher.sh file to execute. We have an ini formatted file that drives the generic launcher where we list the java location, the command line arguments, and the working directory. hi all, I am using wrapper to monitor my tomcat 5.5.17 (use java 1.5) now. but I see that it is hung and show the following error: INFO | jvm 1 | 2007/06/22 18:34:25 | Send a packet PING : ok ERROR | wrapper | 2007/06/22 18:35:36 | JVM appears hung: Timed out = waiting for signal from JVM. wrapper seems don't try to restart it and just leave it and make tomcat = die. do u have any idea? Regards Simon. |

I'm not sure of the appropriate forum for this question so I thought I = would start here first. The java applications I support use a common launcher.exe and = launcher.sh file to execute. I am running v3.1.2 on a machine that has 1 processor unfortunately the service seems to intermitantly hang. The message before this problem occurs is as follows ServiceControlHandler(4) SERVICE_CONTROL_INTERROGATE The service looks as if it is still running however my app is not doing its job.. (I.e. monitoring a dir for the existance of files and writing to a log file) Is there anybody that has had this issue and been able to fix it? or Is there somthing I can do to narrow my search while troubleshooting. Bern, You were right! The problem was the undefined JAVA_HOME on that machine. I defined it as you said, and ran the script and it created the wrapper without errors. I even removed the copied jni.h and use the makefile as it was before, and it still makes the binary wrapper. So as Leif said, we just need to copy the makefile: Makefile-linux-x86-64 and rename it to Makefile-linux-s390x-64 and make sure that JAVA_HOME is defined. My wrapped service is now running! Thanks to both, Edrick Quoting wra...@li...: > > > -----Original Message----- > From: wra...@li... > [mailto:wra...@li...] On Behalf Of Bernd > Laengerich > Sent: Tuesday, June 12, 2007 9:03 AM > To: wra...@li... > Subject: Re: [Wrapper-user] FW: Service Wrapper in IBM s390 linux server > > ep...@up... schrieb: > >> Bernd, >> I found a copy of jni.h on my machine on the folder: >> /opt/ibm/java2-s390x-50/include/jni.h >> I copied the file to my wrapper src c folder on the same machine: >> /usr/local/wrappersrc/wrapper_3.2.3_src/src/c/jni.h >> And ran again the build64.sh script and the same error is generated. > Did I >> miss something out? AFAIS, the directoy $JAVA_HOME/include ist included in the include search path, so the first error should not have occured: COMPILE = gcc [...] INCLUDE=$(JAVA_HOME)/include DEFS = -I$(INCLUDE) -I$(INCLUDE)/linux [...] %.o: %.c @echo '$(COMPILE) -c $<'; \ $(COMPILE) $(DEFS) -Wp,-MD,.deps/$(*F).pp -c $< [...] I never built the wrapper myself, but try defining the JAVA_HOME (export JAVA_HOME=/opt/ibm/java2-s390x-50) and change the makefile line to: %.o: %.c @echo '$(COMPILE) $(DEFS) -c $<'; \ to include the directories of the compiler call in the output. Check, if there is a directory /opt/ibm/java2-s390x-50/include/linux. If not, change the last part of the makefile line DEFS = -I$(INCLUDE) -I$(INCLUDE)/linux to whatever directory there is with platform dependant include files. Bernd |

Bernd,
I found a copy of jni.h on my machine on the folder:
/opt/ibm/java2-s390x-50/include/jni.h
I copied the file to my wrapper src c folder on the same machine:
/usr/local/wrappersrc/wrapper_3.2.3_src/src/c/jni.h
And ran again the build64.sh script and the same error is generated. Did I
miss something out? I checked twice and the jni.h is on that folder and
the output still says that is missing. Do I have to change something
else?
Thanks,
Edrick

Edrick,
No, you are the very first personto request this. A new
make file is going to need to be created. Good news is that
there is a pretty good chance the x86-64 make file will work.
Try copying Makefile-linux-x86-64 and try the build.
If you get any errors it may be necessary to make some
modifications. Post the build output and I may be able to
help. Let me know if it works as well as I would like to add
an appropriate makefile for other users in the future.
Cheers,
Leif

Hi, I=E2=80=99m trying to use the Service Wrapper to create a service that does= some management on data on both linux and windows platforms. The system with the wrapper was tested successfully in windows and linux 32 bit. But our production target system is a linux IBM s390 64-bit system. There=E2=80=99s= no wrapper download binary for that system, so we downloaded the sources and tried to run the build file (build64.sh), but it asks for a =E2=80=9CMakefile-linux-s390x-64=E2=80=9D (which is not included on the sou= rce distribution). Do you have that makefile available or a binary distribution for a linux machine running on an IBM s390 server? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Edrick |

Barry,
The Wrapper does not have a command on UNIX version to stop
another process. The shell script will accept a stop command that
will do this however. The script is considered part of the "wrapper"
solution.
There are a number of ways to stop a wrapper process. By
default you can send it a TERM signal. The wrapper can be
configured to ignore these signals however.
Another method is to specify an anchor file using the
wrapper.anchorfile=./wrapper.anchor property. The wrapper will
create the anchor file on startup. If you delete it, the wrapper will
shutdown cleanly.
Hope that helps.
Cheers,
Leif

Gregor, The documentation for the JBoss example is a sample of the steps needed to make JBoss or some other application work. The specific property values shown are only valid for the specific version of JBoss that was used to create the example. The version of JBoss you are using may require slightly different property values. You will need to see what the batch file that comes with JBoss is generating. Also with 3 instances of JBoss, there are going to be some port conflicts by default. Make sure that you are configuring them to all bind different ports. Cheers, Leif Gregor Novak wrote: > > Hi, > > I'm trying to set up the Java Service Wrapper to start the Jboss as a > windows service. > > I tried to use the instructions on the official web page, but they > don't work for me. Hi, =20 I'm trying to set up the Java Service Wrapper to start the Jboss as a windows service. I tried to use the instructions on the official web page, but they don't work for me. When ever I want to test it (start from Console) I'm getting exceptions - so also the windows service is not working. =20 My environment is like this: OS: Windows Server 2003 App Server: jboss-4.0.5.GA JAVA: jrockit-R27.2.0-jdk1.5.0_10 =20 I'm running 3 instances of JBoss. If I start them from run.bat they are working normally - also if I use SUN java and Java service it's working as it should. =20 My wrapper.conf file looks like this: =20 wrapper.java.command=3D%JAVA_HOME%/bin/java wrapper.java.additional.1=3D-Dprogram.name=3Drun.bat wrapper.java.additional.2=3D-Xms256m wrapper.java.additional.3=3D-Xmx768m wrapper.java.additional.4=3D-Djava.endorsed.dirs=3Dc:/%JBOSS_HOME%/lib/en= dor sed wrapper.java.classpath.1=3D../lib/wrapper.jar wrapper.java.classpath.2=3D%JAVA_HOME%/lib/tools.jar wrapper.java.classpath.3=3D./run.jar wrapper.java.library.path.1=3D../lib wrapper.java.mainclass=3Dorg.tanukisoftware.wrapper.WrapperSimpleApp wrapper.app.parameter.1=3Dorg.jboss.Main wrapper.app.parameter.2=3D-c instance3 wrapper.ntservice.name=3DJBoss-instance3 wrapper.ntservice.displayname=3DJBoss Server-instance3 =20 Does any one have any idea how should I set up the config file so that it will start instance that I want on JBoss. =20 Thanks, =20 Grega |

Ok, I see how to start a unix daemon using wrapper directly with wrapper.daemonize=TRUE. However, once it is started, can I use the wrapper directly to stop the daemon?
