Hi, I'd like to know if the java service wrapper has any built-in method to run a command when the service is stopped or just before staring it, for example, clean up lock files and stuff like that. Thanks in advance, Lucas Vieites ---------------------------------------------------------------- This message was sent using IMP, the Internet Messaging Program. |

Hi Leif Mortenson, First of all, thank you for the good product. We are very satisfied and = we want to go on using the wrapper (and we have given an donation ;-)). We are planning to test our application on a 64Bit Windows operating = system and currently struggle with the 64bit version of the wrapper. I would be very happy if you could bring some light in the dark ;-) by = anwering my questions. 1) I can not find a binary version for the 64 Bit version. 2) I see several questions from other developers who have the same = problem but no very clear answer or different suggestions. 3) I can not find a concluding information by Tanuki about this task. = Ok, I have the list of supported platforms, that does not include the 64Bit Windows platform... What I need to know: - Is the binary version somewhere available? - If not, can we expect such a version and if we can expect it, when can = we expect it? - Is there an other way (build the version by ourselves) to get the = 64Bit wrapper running on Windows64? - Do we have to look for an other tool, because we can not expect a = solution in a acceptable time frame? Thank you for a explanation, that clarifies the questions all around = this task. Hello, I was browsing the download and am not seeing a binary distribution for Solaris 10 64 bit on X86 ? Are there any plans to provide that in the future? |

I'm using JavaWrapper 3.2.3 and the JRE 1.6.0_01. I have an application that is using JIntegra to talk to COM objects on the local machine that is controlling video encoding hardware. If the system is not loaded things seem to run great and I never see crashes. If I load the software so that it's hovering around 100% cpu I eventually (after 7 hours & not always exactly at this time) get crashes. In the wrapper logs I see this: The JVM process terminated due to an uncaught exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) JVM exited unexpectedly. Dr Watson shows this: Application exception occurred: App: c:\ipe\mvcp\javawrapper\bin\wrapper.exe (pid=2952) When: 5/1/2007 @ 17:28:49.263 Exception number: c0000005 (access violation) *----> System Information <----* Computer Name: PROXYCT...... Hi, wrapper.shutdown.timeout=3D10 wrapper.ping.timeout=3D30 I have a service that does not respond in time to my shutdown request. The = stop is received and acknowledged, but the service does not exit in time. My shutdown timeout of 10 seconds is ignored, because wrapperUpdateJavaStat= eTimeout() does not take it, if there is already another timeout set which = is longer. This is normally the case, if you use default wrapper.ping.timeout, which = is 30 seconds.=20 Does anybody have a clever idea, how to solve this without destroying some = wrapper internal logic?=20 hub |

Hi all,=0AI'm a beginner with this useful tool named wrapper...=0AI have a =
little question : I have a Java application (in reality, it's a web app run=
under Tomcat which is run by wrapper). For some reason, I want to run this=
Java application with AspectJ instead of the classic "java" program.=0AFor=
that, I've set the parameter "wrapper.java.command" to "C:/aspectj1.5/bin/=
aj.bat"=0AUnfortunately, it doesn't work, I got some error, like : =0Ajava.=
lang.NoClassDefFoundError: C:/tools/tomcat/5/0/28/common/endorsed=0A=0AIn f=
act, I've set the parameter "wrapper.java.additional.1" like this=0Awrapper=
.java.additional.1=3D-Djava.endorsed.dirs=3D"C:/tools/tomcat/5.0.28/common/=
endorsed"=0A=0AWhen I try to trace the parameters passed to the "aj.bat" co=
mmand, I see that the second "=3D" was replaced by a blank (" "), so my com=
mand seems like this :=0A"C:/aspectj1.5/bin/aj.bat" -Djava.endorsed.dirs "C=
:/tools/tomcat/5.0.28/common/endorsed" ....=0A=0AHow to keep the second "=
=3D" ?=0AIs wrapper compatible to AspectJ program ?=0A=0AThanks=0A=0A=0A=0A=

Never mind. Syntax error. Rule of thumb is you can't
see your mistakes until the moment you tell someone
else you have a problem. Thanks for considering
anyway.

Leif,
Thanks for your response. I don't know much about Unix shell
programming, so I didn't check the script. But after reading your post,
I looked at it, and I think I know enough to say this it does indeed do
what I was looking for. Probably I didn't explain it very well. I was
hoping to use the return value from invoking the script with the
argument "status" to tell whether the service was running. I observed
that it returns 1 when the script is not running, and 0 otherwise. I
didn't see this documented, so I wondered if it would always be the
case. But doesn't the following code from the script mean that this is
indeed the intended behavior, and I can therefore rely on it?
status() {
getpid
if [ "X$pid" = "X" ]
then
echo "$APP_LONG_NAME is not running."
exit 1
else
echo "$APP_LONG_NAME is running ($pid)."
exit 0
fi
}
I prefer this approach to checking for the presence of the pid file,
since, as you pointed out, the script ensures not only that a process is
running with a pid equal to the pid in the pid file, but also that that
process is the wrapper process.

Mark, The shell script on UNIX does not currently work that way. It would be easy to modify the shell script to do so however when it is called with the "status" command. As an alternative, would checking for the pid file work for you? The Wrapper can be configured to output a pid file on startup. This is the norm when using the provided shell script on UNIX but needs to be set on Windows: wrapper.pidfile You can also check for a running JVM with the wrapper.java.pidfile property. If you want more detail on the exact status of the Wrapper or JVM processes, you could also use the wrapper.statusfile and wrapper.java.statusfile properties. See the documentation for all of the above. http://wrapper.tanukisoftware.org/doc/english/properties.html Just so you are aware, the pid file will always be deleted if the Wrapper shuts down normally, but it could be left around if the Wrapper were to crash or be killed with kill -9. Same if the OS itself were to crash. The shell script works around these cases by actually looking for the process located within the pid file. Cheers, Leif Mark Leone wrote: > I'm using Runtime.exec() Java method to execute the Unix script that was > re-named to the name of my app. Thus I use > > String[] cmd = new String[]{myPath + "/myAppName" ,"status"}; > Process process = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(cmd); > > I can capture the standard output from process, and get a verbal > description of the status of the service. I'm using Runtime.exec() Java method to execute the Unix script that was
re-named to the name of my app. Thus I use
String[] cmd = new String[]{myPath + "/myAppName" ,"status"};
Process process = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(cmd);
I can capture the standard output from process, and get a verbal
description of the status of the service. However I'd prefer to get an
integer or byte status, the way it works with Windows (executing
wrapper.exe, not the script). So instead of capturing standard out from
the Process created by exec(), I use
int result = process.waitFor();
When I do this, result = 1 if the service is not running, 0 if the
service is running. (If I get the status of executing "wrapper -qs
../conf/wrapper.conf" as with Windows, I get result = 1 no matter if the
service is up or down.) I don't see this status result documented
anywhere for the Unix script. Is this behavior I can rely on, or should
I parse the standard output from process to determine the status of the
service? I'm trying to avoid the latter, because I'm having trouble
processing the standard output from process when I invoke exec() from
the Event Dispatch Thread, which I need to do.

Frank, By default, the Wrapper runs as the SYSTEM user. If you want to be running as a specific user, try setting the wrapper.ntservice.account property. Be sure to read the docs: http://wrapper.tanukisoftware.org/doc/english/prop-ntservice-account.html Cheers, Leif Frank F Chiang wrote: > I have a Java program in which I'm calling System.getProperty("user.home"); to get the user's home directory. I have a Java program in which I'm calling System.getProperty("user.home"); to get the user's home directory. This would give me something like C:\Users\username (on Vista).
I've connected it to the wrapper and when I run the App.bat file, everything is still fine, but when I install the program as a service and try to start it in Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services, then it returns an error. In the log that was created, I see that System.getProperty("user.home") suddenly gives C:\ instead of my home directory.
Does anyone know why this is and how to solve this problem?
Thanks!

I remember i had a couple of problems because if you specify a file that is

all the files in the directory will be in the classpath.

it is possible.

Subject: [Wrapper-user] Help regarding starting a service
Hi,
I have used the wrapper class to create a windows service . I am successful
in creating the service but have an issue in starting it.
My service calls a java and the java starts a thread to run and it does not
return anything and has to keep running in the background.
But when i click on start in administrative tools>> service>> my service i=
t
comes back and says unable to start and it failed.
My java program is a thread and it will not return anything , Is there any
configuration variable which i could specify in my conf file so that i coul=

just run the java program
and return immediately without waiting for an output?
Looking forward for your help.
Thanks in advance.

maybe it is your start method, that does not return....
Your start method must return and return NULL to indicate a successful =

Subject: [Wrapper-user] Help regarding starting a service
Hi,
I have used the wrapper class to create a windows service . I am successful=
in creating the service but have an issue in starting it.
My service calls a java and the java starts a thread to run and it does =
not
return anything and has to keep running in the background.
But when i click on start in administrative tools>> service>> my service =
it
comes back and says unable to start and it failed.
My java program is a thread and it will not return anything , Is there any
configuration variable which i could specify in my conf file so that i =
could
just run the java program
and return immediately without waiting for an output?
Looking forward for your help.
Thanks in advance.
Sujie

Did you try to set your log level to debug and see the command line that
wrapper is trying to execute?
Maybe the problem is in another place...
If you attach your wrapper.conf and some lines of log maybe i can help =
you
more.

I think your are making a main method, and this method call a thread. If =
this
is your case you must do something like
public static void main(String args[]){
YourThread t =3D new YoruThread();
t.start();
t.join();
}
In that way your java program will not day until the thread die.
