Hello everyone, We are excited to announce the release of Java Service Wrapper version 3.6.0! http://wrapper.tanukisoftware.org/doc/english/download.jsp This new version includes the following key updates: - Enhanced security measures to protect passwords and improve the security of both the Wrapper process and Java application. - A streamlined approach to writing application parameters and JVM options, which eliminates the need to escape special characters based on the platform. - Improved efficiency and behavior when loading configuration files and parameter files. - A new syntax for directives, now starting with @ instead of #, to distinguish them from comments. While the old syntax is still supported for backward compatibility, we recommend adopting the new syntax. * Please note that these enhancements may require some configuration adjustments compared to versions 3.5.x. For a comprehensive list of all new features and improvements, please refer to the release notes. http://wrapper.tanukisoftware.org/doc/english/release-notes.html Please let us know if you have any questions about the release. Dear Manager, I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to report an issue we encountered after upgrading to version 3.5.55 (or later). Specifically, we have noticed that the configuration setting: wrapper.java.additional.5=-agentpath:/path/x.so is no longer working as expected following the upgrade. This setting was functioning properly in previous versions, but since the update, it has ceased to operate correctly. We would appreciate any insights or guidance you could provide on resolving this issue. Thank you for your attention to this matter. We look forward to your response. Best regards, Stephen Lam |

Thank you, Maxime, you are correct - I have solved the issue unexpectedly easily on this 3d attempt. What had thrown me off was that we have another log file, written by log4j directly, where this duplication didn't occur. But it was indeed an issue with a root level logger having duplicate handlers. Thanks again, Alex On Fri, 13 Jan 2023 at 09:20, Maxime Andrighetto via Wrapper-user < wra...@li...> wrote: > Hello Alex, > > Thank you for your email. > > The Wrapper is just logging all JVM console output as is. > If you have duplicated output, it's probably because of a misconfiguration > of log4j, for example if you have multiple targets defined. > Please check your log4j configuration file. > > Best Regards, > > Maxime > > On Fri, Jan 13, 2023 at 2:23 PM Alex Gană <sl...@gm...> wrote: > >> Hi, >> >> I have a problem where the wrapper log files have duplicate log4j lines. >> The JVM output is not duplicated. >> >> *Log4j log: * >> >> *INFO: Jan 13, 2023 5:15:35 AM com.package.Class run* >> *Did something, took: 00 minutes 11 seconds* >> >> *Wrapper log: * >> >> >> *INFO | jvm 1 | 2023/01/13 05:15:49 | INFO: Jan 13, 2023 5:15:35 AM >> com.package.Class runINFO | jvm 1 | 2023/01/13 05:15:49 | Did >> something, took: 00 minutes 11 seconds* >> *INFO | jvm 1 | 2023/01/13 05:15:49 | INFO: Jan 13, 2023 5:15:35 AM >> com.package.Class run* >> *INFO | jvm 1 | 2023/01/13 05:15:49 | Did something, took: 00 >> minutes 11 seconds* >> >> Any ideas what's wrong? >> >> Thank you. >> Alex >> _______________________________________________ >> Wrapper-user mailing list >> Wra...@li... >> https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/wrapper-user >> > > > -- > Maxime Andrighetto > Tanuki Software Ltd. > 6-18-10-4F Nishi-Kasai, Edogawa-ku > Tokyo 134-0088 Japan > Tel: +81-3-3878-3211 > Fax: +81-3-3878-0313 > http://www.tanukisoftware.com > _______________________________________________ > Wrapper-user mailing list > Wra...@li... > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/wrapper-user > |

Hello Alex, Thank you for your email. The Wrapper is just logging all JVM console output as is. If you have duplicated output, it's probably because of a misconfiguration of log4j, for example if you have multiple targets defined. Please check your log4j configuration file. Nalini Thank you for your email. The Java Service Wrapper does not use log4j directly. However, many Java applications use it as part of an application run within the Wraper. If your application uses log4j, then you would need to update it with the fixed version or patch provided by Apache. You can find more information on the page below: https://logging.apache.org/log4j/2.x/security.html Setting property "wrapper.java.command.loglevel=INFO" in the wrapper.conf file lets you confirm the classpath passed to the JVM when starting your application. Please first confirm whether or not log4j was added there. Please note that it is also possible that log4j is loaded from the java code, by other classloaders. Applications such as Tomcat,Jetty, JBoss typically may include log4j in their war files. This should be checked with the developers of your application. The Wrapper itself is not affected by this vulnerability (CVE-2021-44228). If you have further questions, please let me know. Is the Java Service Wrapper subject to the Log4J vulnerability if using the base logging? Thanks, Nalini Elkins |

Liong If the Wrapper is being started correctly then yes, it is probably something different between the user environment you were using when running in console mode vs the environment which is present as a service. Please set the wrapper.debug=true property in the wrapper.conf file and try running again in each case. You can then compare the output between the two runs and hopefully the cause will be obvious. In not, please send both of those logs and the wrapper.conf file to us and I would be happy to take a look. (Make sure there is no proprietary information in the logs) The environment when running as a service can be an issue to get setup correctly on all platforms. The Wrapper makes it possible to define variable in the wrapper.conf as well. To always set the value: set.FOOBAR=value To set only if not already set: set.default.FOOBAR=true See here: https://wrapper.tanukisoftware.com/doc/english/props-envvars.html Cheers, Leif On Fri, Feb 26, 2021 at 4:52 PM Liong Kok Foo <lio...@re...> wrote: > Hi, > > I just took over a machine running wrapper 64bit 3.5.21. Hi, I just took over a machine running wrapper 64bit 3.5.21. CentOS 7. Quite an old machine. It was developed by pass developer and I am the system admin trying to get the service to start during server reboot. It was disabled previously and had to be restarted manually everytime we reboot the machine. I tried enable it to start on reboot (systemctl enable testwrapper) and the service seems to start like expected. However, the program does not work properly. I then stopped the wrapper and start it manually using the start up script running it directly as root from the folder (./testwrapper start). This way program will work properly. I tried asking some developer about this and they mentioned maybe it is something to do with the environment variables. I am wondering if someone could shed some light into getting this wrapper run on reboot with the proper environment variables or whatever reason it is not working properly. Appreciate any comments. Version 3.2.1 of the Wrapper is very old and contains a lot of issues that we fixed over the years. If the Wrapper is crashing, there is a great chance it was fixed on a later version. I would first recommend using the latest version of the Wrapper which can be downloaded from our website: https://wrapper.tanukisoftware.com/doc/english/download.jsp If the problem persists, please check the Event log to see if you have any error there. Since version 3.5.42, we added a property to monitor unexpected terminations of the Wrapper process or Java application. This feature helps finding the cause even when no notification could be logged in the Wrapper log file. Please check the following page for details: https://wrapper.tanukisoftware.com/doc/english/props-monitor-exit.html Please let me know if you have any questions. The OS details: Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise 64-bit build 7601 The wrapper.conf and wrapper.log is attached. The issue being the wrapper service crashes without any notifications or logs in the wrapper.log. I am also attaching the appcrash WER files. As there are no logs or evidence in the log files, we are unable to find the root cause behind the crash and hence cannot reproduce it. In server.log.wrapper.log.3 file , we can see that at “2020/06/13 09:40:57 " the wrapper stops responding but we do not see any shutdown notifications. The service is restarted again and we can see the startup logs in the from “2020/06/13 10:30:17”. Also by seeing the dumps files we know that the wrapper.exe did crash but the reason is unknown. This isn’t a periodic or reproducible crash and hence we couldn’t get the logs in debug mode. Kindly help us in knowing the root cause and a possible solution to this. And do let us know in case you any other logs.
