There is the indictaion, that while on most Windows NT-System, "echo %OS%" results in "Windows_NT", on some systems, this command will result in "WINNT":
http://issues.cocoondev.org/browse/DSY-453

Inside several scripts of the windows version of the wrapper scripts (windows service installation and uninstallation, ...), a check for NT based systems is performed, however considering the case of "Windows_NT" only.

if "%OS%"=="Windows_NT" goto nt
echo This script only works with NT-based versions of Windows.
goto :eof
