[Wpigdc-cms-development] db id's in the object model

Theoretically, there shouldn't be a reason to include db specific
information (like numerical id's) in a Java object model; it should be
transparent at that level. So my question is, why do we have them? Can we
get rid of them? What was the original intention when putting them in?
