Okay all.. Ive been lurking a while. I wrote a MUD RPG for as a project for my BS in comp sci. I have a firm grasp of what needs to be done, and some of the issues you'll hit. Might I suggest the following questions to ponder. Post your responses, and Ill post mine. 1. Will this in fact be a networked game? 1. a. If networked, will you follow the telnet protocol? 2. Multi-Threaded? Child/Parent? Linear execution? 3. Will you be incorporating a language for the game itself (ie: something for the immortals to create new objects with)? My suggestion is that you may want to go much more basic. ie: Zork style. Single user, single line of execution, start to finish, with a well defined goal. This could be achieved in stages, and does not require multithreading, child/parent or networking. The most basic level could require getting from point a -> z while traveling through b <-> y inclusive. Monsters, weapons and gold can be created as you see fit.
