1. Why isn't WSU starting on startup, when I clearly have the option checked?

1a. The most likely cause of this is the location of the executable file. Windows doesn't seem to like to allow files on the desktop to be automatically started with Windows. Try moving the executable to somewhere else such as "C:\Program Files\Workspace Utilities\".

2. Why don't you build an installer to perform the task in 1a automatically?

2a. Because lazy.
