#142 Possibly evading the 3-minute timeout?

Recently there was an issue in which our Autodhs project was trying to download files from a server that was taken offline. The request hung, and it seemed to me that it was hung for more than 3 or 5 minutes, though I'm not sure. It would be worth looking into whether there are certain kinds of blocked processes that don't get interrupted by the timer in pe-make.
