-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi there I dont maintain WorDoG anymore, somebody has taken over the project, but there does not seem to be any progress. You're not having an XML problem, and the XML class was taken from another project. It just shows errors you can ignore. I can remember exactly how it worked, so try reinstalling the languages. Maybe at WAKit? Or it could be a wrong or missing entry in your configuration. Sorry I cant help you... yeah, does look like an XML parsing problem. importing a map gives me... trying to get wordog up and running, having a little difficulty. basically none of the laguage info is loading. php4-pear debian package no longer installs all the extras, so i had to 'pear install HTML_Tables' and 'pear install HTML_Forms' in order to get the main page to load. maybe i'm missing some other pear extras for parsing XML or something? now i'm getting all sorts of entries into 'wardog_laguages_text' with '?' in the 'raw_text' column. i assume it's trying to load the default language file and unable to. i've poked around in the class files for languages and xml parsing but i'm not sure what i'm doing in there and don't want to brake anything. any hints? thanks. p.s. another good project i've found and enjoyed similar to this one is http://netrisk.sf.net |

hi there the good news is: I have here a working NuGE under PHPNuke. the bad news: I have it here. I could not connect to CVS for a couple of hours :( more good news: nakit is almost complete. imho I can release NuGE 0.2a within may. greetings Daniel Pozzi ICQ: 5750630 |

hi today I took the decision that wordog will not have any more features that those planned. this means: everything will be done to get it working as in its best days, but with nuke game engine, plus alliances will be available. maybe some minor improvemens here and there, e.g. usability, but not the game model. after having accomplished that I will stop the development of new features (at least _I_ won't write new ones, and there is still much work left, though) and focus on nuge, wrathbowl and ffts. greetings dan |

hi there. I just want to let you know that nuge and wordog (CVS!) have improved very much this weekend. nuge's framework is a lot more mature and stable than it was at 0.1 release. Localisation works fine, some severe user tracking bugs were fixed already last week. nakit will be part of the framework, has been moved, therefore is temporarily not working. wordog needs some review of the the attack/fight code and of the code which ends the game, diplomacy maybe as well. should not take too long until the next release. dan! |

Hi there. Some minutes ago I released Nuke Game Engine 0.1 (which is the same as in CVS) at SourceForget and announced it at Freshmeat. Let's hope for positive feedback. Regards Dan |

Dear All, imho NuGE 0.1 can be released soon, I suggest Sunday evening (CET), after having tested the installation routines. The release will be a preview, dont expect too much. NuGE will not support any of the Nukes in this version, only standalone will work. WorDoG will be playable, though some features might have been ported badly . We'll see. Best regards Daniel |

hi everyone I noticed some activity in cvs and some changes in nuge. please comment important changes and test code twice before comitting it. I know I comitted immature code a few times myself, but from now on I'll do my best not to confuse you. it seems that nuge is on the edge to turn into something usable. most concepts concerning the core are clear now, and most is halfway documented. greetings dan |

hi again.
Meanwhile I read LONG discussions/flamings on latex vs docbook...
whatever they say, I have made my own experiences with Latex and looked
into some docbook instructions. we should use latex.
1) imho it is easier to place and maintain single tags (latex) than
writing well-formed xml (docbook)
docbook example:
<section>
<title>Hello</title>
........
</section>
latex example:
\section{Hello}
.........
furthermore, what I have read so far, latex docs use less tags
2) latex can use several sources, dunno if docbook can. this is nice
for the doc writers
3) absolutely ignorant people at my institute learned latex quite
easiliy + there are dedicated editors. I doubt they would have learned
xml plus all the special tags that fast.
4) latex runs nicely and fast everywhere, docbook is a pain on mac os x
5) maybe! dummies could use wysiwig lyx, then save back as latex
6) i have some files from wordog already in latex.
regards
dan

hi there! imho it's about time to write a good! documentation for nuge/wordog. mark roberts suggests "docBook" (see eg www.docbook.org), which is quite similar to latex (I began writing some lines in latex). in any case we need a portable format and maybe we should consider connecting the written documentation somehow with wordog's help system. any ideas? best regards dan ps: if you find time, check the cvs. we intend to have a playable installation out-of-the-box (some day :) ) |

IN the end, though, every > player > goes to war sooner or later. LOL! > > alliances: my plan is to drop the old system. instead, some player can initialize a new alliance (like nato) and join it immediate4ly, then allow/deny others to join his alliance. some many players can be in the same alliance, but only in one at a time. this reminds me a bit of the guilds from other online games and might make the people to have a closer relation to the game and the players themselves. else: what about including some kind of data exchange in wakit: perhaps sending language translations to a central place (wordog.net, so the maps and skins), or some kind of voluntary registration of the server to provide an overview of worldwide wordog gaming places. i admire very much how people from all over the world contribute to osdn / sf / wordog and how many already play wordog. maybe it was interesting to provide a picture or link of the places where we live (instead of ourselves to boast us), eg from roulette and point to it on a world map as at danielpozzi.de/aroundtheworld. why does not the list address appear in "from" but yours? without changing it nobody else would receive the mail... dan > > > > ------------------------------------------------------- > This sf.net email is sponsored by:ThinkGeek > Welcome to geek heaven. > http://thinkgeek.com/sf > _______________________________________________ > Wordog-general mailing list > Wor...@li... > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/wordog-general > |

Well, that is locked up as far as wordog.net...:) In a day or two from now, should be able to go to http://www.wordog.net However, there is nothing there except a basic index page. wordog.com seems to belong to a site about dogs...:) anyway, as I am still working very hard on my new servers and web hosting business, I have little time, but wordog looks to be a very popular game so far. I have 2 games running, as one has players smashed out of the game, the other one takes them in. Once I have my largest projects completed (I need to build an automation script for my webhost account, and also an affiliate and matrix database script for another site I am taking over, as well as my main game site which needs rebuilt, I will begin developing wordog.net this should have DNS resolved to a small webhost account in a couple of days, and once done, I expect it will sit there, perhaps be useful for a couple of general purpose scripts and for testing, until I can develop it. I enjoy the coding very much and have learned a great deal in the short time I have been playing with PHP. I am also beginning work on a FAQ's page as well as a few additional config variables to add a "home page", "forums" and FAQ's page to the login screen, which should make it a little more user accessible. When players log out, they have no where else to go, so with a variable added to config to insert the home page link they can return to the hosting site. Should be relatively simple- just add the variable in config and comment what it is for, then insert this into the index.php in a good location...Will commit this once I have verified it works smoothly.:) Bri! I also have a couple of ideas for a messaging or chat system that can be integrated into the game, so players may be able to contact each other, such as offering intelligence between allies... IN the end, though, every player goes to war sooner or later. LOL! |

hi brian, hi danilo, hi everyone else when browsing wordog´s sf home i suddenly noticed that i was not subscribed to my own list, therefore, brian, never received your "intro". here´s mine: My name is Daniel Pozzi from Bonn, Germany. I study nutrition sciences (focusing on household appliances, smart home). Tomorrow (2nd August) is my birthday, will reach 26. I got the idea to write WorDoG two years ago while making the first steps with PHP. I quickly noticed that this beyond my limits, so I forgot about it for a while. The rest of the story is documented at sourceforge. My plans for the future: 0.6 will be cool, no question. We should establish a central wordog server (brian: meanwhile i like your idea of getting wordog.net) for LAAARGE games (someday). Then, we´d need some skilled skin-makers to give wordog a cool look&feel. I imagine a broad range of maps from historical to contemporary and, maybe, geometric maps like circles or else. that could be fun. theoretically a 3d map was possible... have fun and always tell your ideas "general dan" |
