What Are These Things Good For?

WNotes can work like a window onto any piece of text on your desktop or disk. They're designed to integrate text from desktop apps and files into... whatever you find useful: a database, a diary, a log file... whatever the something is that you keep information with, WNotes puts them on the desktop. With a little scripting with bash, perl, or other language, it's easy write desktop applets that save notes, put them away, and then pop then up whenever you need them.

For a few examples to get you started, take a look in the examples subdirectory of the distribution.

WNotes Updates

We normally post notices of updates to Free Software sites like freecode.com, and also to sites like lxer.com and Usenet groups like comp.os.linux.announce if a release seems particularly newsworthy.

If you want to receive notices of future releases, you can subscribe to the WNotes project on freecode.com, and you'll receive notices by e-mail whenever we release a new version of WNotes.

Features and bugs. We're always interested in hearing from you. Please contact us if you have suggestions for new features or have noticed a bug that you would like fixed.
