Have not been able to install/use an Orinoco Gold Wireless
card on my PowerBooK G3 (Wallstreet) under OS X (Jaguar)
using the Beta 5 driver.

Works just fine with the Orinoco drivers and OS 9+. The
Wireless Preference Panel does not accept input for the name
of the network and the activity lights do not flash (indicating
that the card is not recognized?) Is this a no go under OS X or
is there a work-around?

Thanks.

Well I hate to be the one to respond to my own posting but I got the card
to work with OS 10.2. Followed advice of post 609805 and re-installed
the drivers a couple of times. I had to remove the ethernet01 post in
Network which had been "grayed out" and therefore unselectable.
Removed it in auto and another network I had created called Home.
Doing it in just one didn't get the job done. Then reinstalled with the card
in the computer and "yup" it worked. Found en01, card lite up, found the
wireless gateway (Orinoco Home Gateway) and "the eagle has landed."
Would be happy to help out anybody else but I don't know what I'm
    doing in the first place.

I had a similar problem on my wallstreet also. However, the second
time I installed the drivers, I then rebooted with the card in the slot
and it fired up straight away.

Now if only I could use WEP on the Gold card (am using the Lucent
branded WaveLAN Gold cards... No difference, just branding) I'd be
a lot happier. Either that or implement IPsec across the whole thing
(easy in Linux, but I got 3 OSX boxes and have never tried to setup
    IPsec on Darwin).

Is this project even still being developed? haven't heard beep in the
    coding in a long time.

That's the same with me in an Pismo G3 Pb in OS(X).3.8.
The card is recognized but not accessible bij the config and pref pane
    panels (wirelessbeta5_1 driver).
The card works fine under os9, with airport driver! in the same PB G3
    Pismo.
