OK, I haven't tried deleting these files yet, since I am concerned about side effects; and I'm not sure it's necessary in my case. Please advise me if you think this is necessary based on the following information. > > Here's the requisite info asked for in the FAQ: > > [Jims-Powerbook:~] jim% ioreg -l | grep VersionOneInfo > | | | "VersionOneInfo" = > ("INTERSIL","HFA384x/IEEE","Version 01.02",""$ I get the same output : % ioreg -l | grep VersionOneInfo | | "VersionOneInfo" = ("INTERSIL","HFA384x/IEEE","Version 01.02",""$ but... > [Jims-Powerbook:~] jim% ioreg -l | grep pccard > | | +-o pccard156,2@0,0 <class IOPCCard16Device> > | | | "IOName" = "pccard156,2" > | | | "IONameMatch" = > ("pccard156,2","pccard1eb,807","pccard274,1613","pccard274,16$ > | | | "IONameMatched" = "pccard156,2" I don't get the same here; I only get the first two lines : % ioreg -l | grep pccard | | +-o pccard156,2@0,0 <class IOPCCard16Device> | | "IOName" = "pccard156,2" A difference between my config and yours is that my powerbook has Apples AirPort card installed which shows up as en0, and continues to work (poorly) after installing the new drivers. I've got one of these cards, and the driver installation was pretty straightforward for me, for whatever reason. But I can't get WEP to work. Just to confirm, are you guys getting WEP to work or not? No. My understanding is that the current driver doesn't supported it yet. I can't get WEP to work either. I believe WEP is not yet supported by this version of the driver. I am new to this whole thing, and just got my 2511CD PLUS card yesterday. I had installed the driver on Friday before I got the card. I was in exactly the same boat as you with the same machine. I dumped those pref files and rebooted, to no avail (nor did I expect anything since I DID have panes, but no new network port) ... So, I reinstalled the drivers WITH THE CARD PLUGGED IN ... I was delighted to see the green triangle blinking when the machine came back up, and it is now working. Us dummys just have to go for the empirical, trial and error approach for lack of a better idea ... but if you haven't done it already ... it worked for me. Hello Oscar! Yes! Reinstalling the driver while the card was actually plugged in fixed it for me too! What a simple solution - the best kind :) I now have other problems with getting it to actually work with my AirPort base station, but that's the subject of another thread once I have exhausted all FAQ and other research suggestions :) Thanks for the help! Max. PS. I wonder if this solution might be added to the FAQ? Oscar F Hills, MD wrote: >I am new to this whole thing, and just got my 2511CD PLUS card yesterday. Worked the same way for me. I'm happy to report I'm up and running with the EnGenuis internal card and a Belkin wireless router using DSL. And all i can say is: WOW. Just to clarify my setup and install: My EnGenius EL-2511CD PLUS Card (internal antenna version) is installed in a Titanium PowerBook G4 550 (Gigabit Ethernet). I use it with a Belkin Wireless Cable/DSL Gateway Router not a Airport Base Station. The only glitch I encountered was I had to install the wireless driver once with the card inserted, reboot, un-install the wireless driver, reboot (card inserted), install the wireless driver again (card inserted) and reboot one last time. Since then (3 days ago) it has worked perfectly. Larry On Thursday, November 7, 2002, at 10:54 PM, Larry Jarvis wrote: > Worked the same way for me. Larry, I went through just about the same gyrations trying to install the driver. However I had one more glitch. I could never get the WirelessConfig preference pane to mount. I finally deleted the "com.apple.systempreferences.plist" in the Preferences Folder, opened System Preferences again - and voila - there it was. All in all I'm very impressed. Before the EGenius card, I was lucky to get 25ft out of my TIPowerBook. Now 100ft is no problem!
