Desperately need help or advice. My hardware: a Titanium Powerbook 500
Software: 10.3 (Panther)
My home WiFi system runs off a 1st-Gen Apple Base Station - and works fine
with both iBooks and iMacs equipped with airport cards. It is a
non-encrypted non-password protected home network.
So what's my problem? It has to do with my new WiFi Card - an Orinoco
Silver "b" card
Downloaded the latest WiFi sourceforge Installer for OS 10.2 (at least, the
latest one on the website). Did the initial install fine...BUT -
In my System Preferences, when I select Network - there is NO EN1 or EN2
Interface. The only interfaces listed are the default ones - Internet
Connect, Ethernet, or iRDA.
However, at the bottom of the entire ('Show All') System Preferences window,
there is a new 'Preference Pane' (under the new Category 'Other') - which
says "Wireless Config". Unfortunately, when I access it, everything in it
is GREYED OUT
So then I tried doing the following (described in the sourceforge FAQ) -
opening the terminal App and typing in:
sudo kextload /System/Library/Extensions/WirelessDriver.kext
sudo rm -f /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache
sudo rm -f /System/Library/Extensions.mkext
I've done this a number of times and get different and varying error
messages - things like "no such bundle file exists" - or "can't add kernel
extension sudo".
Then I ran the "Troubleshooting Info" command - it gave me the following --
