Dear Robert
I must stress that I am NO expert, but this bit -

suggests to me that the install hasn't been complete or that stuff
hasn't gone where it should have - each time I have installed wireless
driver (just did one yesterday after reinstalling 10.3) there often is
a need to create a folder /library/preferencepanes for starters, so the
relevant files have somewhere to to be installed (although it seems as
if if you keep reinstalling eventually these folders get created ?)
other tactics that have worked for me - install using main installer
package, reboot, install again using separate installers (in the
installers folder), reboot; checking to see if the en1 port has it's
existence confirmed in the network prefs pane in sys utilities,
selecting this, then rebooting (you get the idea - loads of mucking
about backwards and forwards til it sticks !)) - I actually once got
fed up as it seemed not to have taken and ran the uninstaller (with
corresponding full confirmation in terminal that it had been
uninstalled) and just as I was about to reboot got a dialogue box pop
up that said "a new port en1 has been detected, do you want to
configure his port ?" I clicked yes and had it fully working on the
network within seconds - of course after restarting the port had gone
dead as the uninstaller script had then finished properly trashing the
relevent files (I think it renames a .kext file so that it can delete
it on reboot whereas just renamed and moved by the uninstaller it was
still working happily ! - just a theory .....)
Another top tip - get rid of any other relevant wireless drivers you
may have tried - I once got it up and running after dumping the
ioxperts driver.
I also remember an email from kori lessing sometime ago that had some
of the info from the top paragraph expanded upon - with a copy of what
the troubleshooting script should say when all the files are correctly
installed.
Any how as I say, I am not an expert and would really appreciate a more
detailed and correct assessment of why it sometimes fails to install
from one of the developers - I do system clean installs fairly
regularly for various reasons and am frustrated myself by how hard it
is to get it installed sometimes ! That said we'd all be up the creek
without a paddle if these guys hadn't done the work already, so a big
thanks for that !
Good Luck !
Andy
p.s. this person has a point as well - the card being in does seem to
make a difference
