Another option is to try a different card that works with Apple's native driver. I picked up Buffalo's G54 CardBus card for use in my PBG4 on the advice of a member of this list and it works great with the regular AirPort driver -- I can use iStumbler etc just as if I had a regular internal card, and I get the nice AirPort signal strength meter in the menu bar. It was $20 after rebate, so keep an eye out for deals like that. The WirelessDriver worked really well for me for several years but roaming is so much easier with the "real" AirPort driver. The only caveat is that I don't think the card is really hotswappable using Apple's driver. Which kind of makes sense if you think about -- Apple doesn't expect anyone is going to be able to get an internal AirPort card out while the machine is running, so they must not have written any swapping code. But since I'm always online and never take the card out, this works great for me. brian @joannou.net >I too have grudingly admitted that >this project appears to be completely >halted and therefore I've purchased the >aforementioned IOXperts product. |
