I was finally able to get it installed by skipping the combo installer (several reinstalls and reboots from that package yielded no results) and going straight to the individual installer for the driver itself (in the 'Installers' directory. Couldn't tell you if that's reproducible, or just dumb luck, but I'm back up and running.
