Hi, Here is the problem: I live in the building with no Internet. From a stairway window there is straight line of sight (partially obstructed by trees) to a building with 8 hotspots. The distance from that WINDOW to my room is 55 feet. I have Apple Powerbook G4 with additional PC wireless card (EnGenues 200mW) and directional Yagi antenna (12 db). From the window I have good/ decent connection with 4-6 hotspots, from my room with 2 but signal is VERY weak (unusable). Running 55 foot cable will result in unacceptable loss of signal ( 3.4 db for cable plus who knows how much for two N connectors). Would be nice to find a receiver of some kind,to place it on the window, and to run ethernet cable to my room. My understanding is that using an access point as a client is impossible, as it would require to reprogram the "base station" access points, which I don't have access to. I tried to use repeaters, (lynksis, D-link, NetGear) But each one works only with the same brand. But I need something compatible to any access point, as signals from the hot spots change, people can move, set up access restrictions etc. Antenna amplifiers I could find are very expensive (over $300). I am on a limited budget. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated Thank you very much Moshe _________________________________________________________________ Need more e-mail storage?
