With a $129 street price for the 802.11g AP the $80 seems high for a b only AP :) I've played around with the card in my tibook, also a DVI 800, and have transfered stuff at 16mb/s when the AP was in a/b mode and 20mb/s with settings in g only mode, not too shabby. It was pretty easy to get the linksys setup with a mac, but I did use a PC to update the firmware as it was a program. There were provisions to update via tftp but I did not try that but I will next time.
