well, this is not necessarily recommendable for every UNIX-dummy. I'm 
pretty experienced with Macs but doing exactly this using pico and sudo 
from the terminal, I screwed up my TiBook and had to completely 
reinstall OS X (probably because IOxpert's driver was also installed, 
the track pad did not respond at the login screen any longer)
