When they were particularly inexpensive at Best Buy I purchased: Linksys Wireless Access Point Router (with 4 Port Switch) Model No: BEFW11S4 ver.2 Linksys Wireless PC Card Model No: WPC11 ver. 3 My home network consists of an aging 266 MHz PII, and a shiny new eMac. I have a connection to Time Warner Cable's RoadRunner service via a 3Com Cable Modem (which is neither Mo-ing or Dem-ing). For work I have a Powerbook 333 MHz G3 (bronze keyboard) with 128MB of ram. I had all 3 machines surfing the web in 30 minutes! I know it's off-topic but the Linksys router was a snap to setup and install (via the PeeCee of course). I was running 10.2.1 when I downloaded the Beta 5 Wireless driver. Installed it and it just worked! I'm very happy. My wireless network is wide open (no WEP). I updated to 10.2.2 and didn't have to change a thing. It just kept on going. (I did NOT update wirelessly.) Not too bad for less than $150 for both! (It really felt good to ignore that PC CD-Rom and instructions in the box!) Also, I've use the same card with my wife's PIII notebook running Win2000 so she can use her company's VPN from home. This made the "family decision" to purchase the card easy. I'm sending this message because when I was looking to buy, I scoured the archives trying to find out if this Linksys card would work or not (The table in the FAQ said yes BUT...). I found a few messages mentioning the Linksys card, but nothing definitive. I took the risk and purchased it anyway and for me, it all worked well. Thanks for the open-source driver! Regards, Chris |
