Thanks Dave, I figured it out before I saw your reply, 

I dropped into the installer folder, installing each piece separately.
To install the PrefPane I had to point it to the
System/Library/PreferencePanes/ directory.  That with the Info.plist
edit got it working.

It seemed have erractic problem, the biggest symptom being nearly
continous "Connection Refused" errors in Mozilla, but seeming to work in
MSIE. :-(

Then saw beta5 was posted.  As others have reported, this is crashing
the computer.  Either getting a freeze on start-up with the card in or
an emergency Restart message if the card is inserted while running.
