Prompted for new version, but new version does not download
Windows visual tail for log and text files
Brought to you by:
albertoandreo
When start the app, I get prompted with modeal dialog that version 2.2.4.3 is available. If I click yes to download, a browser opens for https://www.tailforwindows.org/ which contains a very long list of links, but I don't see a link to download wintail. First, the app should be less fussy about upgrade. I'd sugget that it shows an indicator somewhere that an upgrade is available in a less annoying way. Do not use a modal dialog. No one likes a modal dialog! Second, if it says there's an upgrade available, then upgrading should work.
I'm using version 2.2.4.2. If milestone indicates version, then I entered the wrong value.
Hi and thanks for your submission. I'll check asap the reason why SourceForgedo not provide the latest WinTail version. I'll give you feedbacks via this ticketing system,
Thanks for fixing both issues.
This is the best windows tail tool that I've found. But, it has significant room for improvement. Is the source code available? Do you accept pull requests?

#17Hi Steve and thanks for your message.
Would you be available to contribute to software improvements by helping me
develop WinTail? It might also be good for me. Consider that the
development environment I use is Visual Studio 2017 Professional licensed
clearly. Let me know okay?
Thank you bye-bye

#17Alberto,
Yeah. That's what I was thinking.
I develop in visual studio too.
What language is it written in? C#? VB?

#17Hi. The app is written with VS 2017 Pro C# and .NET 4.6
This is the official WinTail website that I keep up to date beside every
new release:
http://www.tailforwindows.net/
The old domain http://www.tailforwindows.org has been closed.

#17Sounds good.
If you'd like me to contribute to the development let me know. Would you consider putting the code on github or similar collaboration site?
I need a tool like this and yours is the best I've found so far. I'd would save a lot of time if I could work with it rather than starting from scratch.
Your tool covers basic tailing, and the highlighting is very useful. For the most part is has been reliable and robust -- except when the log file is being written quickly.
The features I'm interested in: horizontal scroll bar and/or line wrap. automatic scroll lock; like when not at the bottom
better handling of log loading with lots of data (instead of hanging)
basic text search
select and copy to clipboard
There are a number of UI/UX issue that I'd like to consider too. But, they are a lesser issue than the features I listed.
If we're going to talk more, we should probably switch to personal email. Mine is mister.broshar@yahoo.com
