Consider the Delphi filter. It lists all the crap files, but does not mention the files you really want. That is no way to design a tool. Why? So that you can exclude a directory.
I can see two ways to fix the problems:
1. provide independent def:include/exclude for files and directories
2. To make maintenance easy, list your dirs and files, and classify them as good/crap. Have an "other" dir/files to define what to do with the remainder. This would make a filter much easier to maintain. New kinds of crap files would not throw it. You could reclassify any extension easily.
