I encountered the same problem. I am comparing program created data text files consisting of blank separated floating point numbers. Here it does not only happen that the difference block is marked to large, but even additional blocks are marked where there is no difference at all. I made following observations:
1. It seems false differences are only marked in lines where there are real differences.
2. Wrong differences are only marked after there are real differences.
A related effect is that the apparent difference is often marked in both versions in a different size or just in one text. By definition a difference is something what appears in both texts and not in just one. (I am not dealing with ommitions or insertiones here.)
