I had the same problem with WinNT4.
I took a look into the sources and found (thanks the -d option) that
the problem is the access to the registry key HKLM/SW/Winlirc.
So, there are two possible solutions:
1. grant normal users the right to access the key by means of
2. change HKLM to HKCU in irconfig.cpp (2x)
The 2nd. solution has the additional effect that different users may
have different configurations.
