Sounds like a plan; however, that registry key doesn't seem to exist on my system, and I can't seem to coax WinLIRC into constructing it. Could I get a little help on manually constructing it?

It might be LIRC instead of WinLIRC. Or might be under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. The keys are also listed at the end of
if you want to construct it manually.
