5-100, means 5 to 100 ohm resistor.
NPN, just use a 2n3906 transistor.
NPN is any npn small power transistor, such as BC238, BC550, 2N2222 or =
5-100 is a resistor, you have to try few values between 5 and 100 ohms =
find out which value is the best (the best infrared light strength), try =
use 47 ohms if you have no idea how to check it.
I did purchase all components, including the2N3906 transistor & 47 ohms =
resistor but with one problem. Maplin in Llandudno North Wales who 2 =
weeks ago said they had all the parts have now run out of one and to =
order it would cost double than all the rest put together. The component =
in question is the BD237 (Maplin code is N91AH).
Does anyone have any of these they want to sell?? How much?? How much =

Subject: [WinLIRC] Serial Port Transmitters
Ultimately I would like to make a transmitter and receiver, but I am =
having difficulties just building the transmitter.
I have no electronic experience but am able to solder components =
together following pictures or simplified diagram. I went to Maplin (UK) =
with the printout from http://www.lirc.org/transmitters.html webpage, =
hoping they could give me the components for the main diagram. They were =
unable to work out what the =E2=80=985-100=E2=80=99 & =
=E2=80=98NPN=E2=80=99 component was. They advised me to get a component =
Can anyone help me with a component list to make a transmitter based on =
this design? Do you have a simplified diagram? Does anyone of a single =
device that they have made that is both a transmitter and receiver? If =
so could you supply a component list and diagram????
