I apologize for the attempted takeover. I hope you're not angry with me. I wasn't trying to steal your project or anything, but I was under the impression that you were not doing anything with the project anymore, since you did not reply to my e-mail or to my forum message.

I just wanted to make sure the project didn't die, because it has so much potential.

My offer still stands: I would very much like to help out with this project. It solves a recurring problem I and probably a lot of people have: setting up a new workstation with all our desired applications.

If you do not want me on your project, would you at least consider putting the website source into CVS, and sharing with me an export of your database? That way, I can at least start a new project with a bit of momentum. It seems to me the most value of this project is in the website/application database, and you already have a lot of applications in there.

Please let me know something, and I apologize again.

Best regards,
Rico Huijbers

I agree with you. There is a reel need for this project and I think this project could have a huge success, and help a lot of Windows admins and home users. I think the most importing thing would be to ensure that the repository is up-to-date with and does not have dead links.

If there is any way I can help ensure the quality of the repository I would really like to help. I see there is some dead links in the repository who have been dead for a long time. Windows tells me that it does report dead links, but the dead link remains. I think the best way to fix this would be to have a community of dedicated people who monitor a set of applications, and keeps the links updated. This might require some changes to the windows-get.sf.net website, and a lot of volunteers but I think it is possible if we just take one step at the time.

Who controls the database anyway? I see there are some updates to it, so there must be someone out there.

Anyway it would be cool to get an reply to this comment. It will prove that the project is not dead it all.

Nice to see that others are looking forward to support this project. Anyway it would be very helpful, if this project will be continued.

Maybe someone could then implement proxy-support ;-)

    Best Regards

    WIN-GET REPLACEMENT

A better win-get project (application installer for Windows):

    http://win-get.sourceforge.net/

I've started an alternative to the abandoned windows-get project, called just 'win-get'. Windows-get was a great project, but unfortunately it is not maintained anymore. That's why we need a new project!

In addition to having a superior client application, the new 'win-get' has a software list that is edited and maintained by the community (i.e., you), so there will never be any chance of the list going out of date and out of order like what happened to the windows-get project.

    WIN-GET NEEDS YOUR HELP

The installer application is only as good as its software list. In order to get a complete list of all software available on the internet, win-get needs you to tell it about your favorite applications. In return, win-get will quickly install it for you on all your PCs and after all your reinstalls ;).

    For more information, visit http://win-get.sourceforge.net/
