how to fast compile?

    I'm using codeblocks and mingw.
Compiling one sample I noted at the build log how it processed everything needed or not.
How do I achieve a fast compile. If I use only a couple of  different controls ( label and textboxes ) do I need to compile everything else? or at least compile it once if not changed?

The normal way to achieve faster compiles is to use precompiled hearders.  The various samples are set up to take advantage of this technique for the various Microsoft compilers. I haven't investigated if MinGW compilers also support precompiled headers but I suspect they might.

Failing that, the free compilers from Microsoft might be the best way to go. Also, the executables they produce are quite a bit smaller than those produced by MinGW.

For what its worth, I prefer MS Visual C++ 2008 Express over MS Visual C++ 2010 Express. Visual 2008 Express  starts up faster, has a nicer GUI (in my opinion) and is more full featured. VS 2010 Express is somewhat crippled.

    Best regards,
