#4 Full terminal programs garbled

Full screen terminal programs start and stay garbled. make
menuconfig of linux kernel, alsamixer of alsa sound utilities package,
pkg-config of Slackware package tool are three examples. Alsamixer
is the only one that is unusable, the terminal screen stays black. If I
resize the window I see it display partially for less than a second
before going black again. I have tried different wiget term window
sizes, including standard 80x24.
