utf8 font display

Hi,
I am using Xfree86 4.1. With the xterm that comes
with it I am able to create files with utf8 file names.
If I set the locale to en_US.utf8
export LANG=en_US.utf8
I am able to see the names appear with the correct
glyphs. I am also able to read utf8 files with a
mixture of characters from morse to russian
using 'less'. If I open weirdx and then an xterm
inside weirdx using the same binary (on windows2000 or
linux), these characters are no longer displayed.
Just thought someone may want to look into this. Given
that weirdx is written in Java it should not be too
difficult to fix this.
Thanks a lot for this fun tool,
Henry
PS. I created the files with utf8 file names by copy
paste from a utf8 file.

I narrowed down the problem a little. Running xlsfonts in
weirdx I found only a limited number of fonts available,
and clearly none of the fonts required to get xterm to
display unicode characters.
It does not seem possible to use xset +fp to increase the
number of fonts using an external font server.
Are there any other ways to add fonts to weirdx?
