I don't remember any such magic. I think PSP's always override writeHTML
unless you specify otherwise using <%@ page method="writeContent"%>, no
matter what base class you're using.
If you don't want to have to repeat the same multiple boilerplate lines in
every PSP, then put them into an include file and use <%@ include
