I have design question about using webware (please
excuse my inexperience/ignorance). To give you some
background information: I am working for a law firm
that wants a giant database system with a web (either
java applet or webpage)interface to it. I have
completed the database (thank god) which is a
Postgresql database with 80 or so tables. Needless to
say the system is/has become very complicated because
of Referiantial Integrity, required fields,
permissions so on... I have already started on a web
page interface using webware. But I have come to the
relization that the required interface for the system
would be very difficult to implement with html and
the input of a form temporarily so that I can go to
another page to pick say a contact and the contact
page may need to go to another page to pick a phone
nightmare. I haven't tried sessions/hidden inputs but
I don't think it work very cleanly...
So here is my design question, finally. I'm thinking
of using webwares servlets (that connect to the
database)as a server sending and maybe receiving XML
data to a java applet. I don't want the applet to
connect to the database directly because of security
reasons also the servlets could do all the permission
checking. I think XML would be nice cause I could
change the interface easily (maybe try to reimplement
the webpage interface later).
Does this sound like a good idea? Any ideas or
criticism would be greatly appreciated. I'm very sorry
for the length of this message. Thanks for you time.
