I just checked this with wm1.1final and Tomcat 5 on linux, which seems to work 
fine. I was using the example HelloWorldServlet and when I removed the 
web-app, everything went away, including the threads and the web-app 
directory.

Could you tell us a little bit more about your environment/webapp.
