We'll it's hard to know who's using them.  I do, but I could replace them
fairly easily.  However, I can't remember the last time we had to support
anybody on these things.

It feels strange for me to be defending the CTs -- I'm probably the main
person who's been pushing for change (#bean, functions, context-aware
functions, etc.) but I don't see the need to get rid of them entirely.  Like
Brian says, let's deprecate them, make something better, give folks a chance
to migrate, and then schedule a date to pull the switch.
