It's be great to involve the end-user in the project
experience.

We usually have requirements gathering and have
deliverables for end-users when configuring and
developing a new system. Those deliverables can be
tracked in the system, but not without a login, password.

Can a user be setup to have only an email and no login?
That way, if a task is assigned to the user they will
get an email with a url + task-id which brings them to
their task (no login) and then they can update the task
or attach their document and say they completed it.

I just took a look at the source from a high level and
may start work myself, but i'd rather pay 20 bucks and
get the feature because of time constraints ;-)
