Maybe it is caused by the encryption? You are working on https:// right? This causes all data to be encrypted by the server, and the client. This generates extra data, and extra processing power. An option to solve this could be to disable SSL and use http://. But this would mean sending commands and passwords to be sent in plain text - not preferable...

No it's just http, non-secure... :-(

Maybe you could use a webmin theme that uses less animation. I know that for instance the caldera theme uses frames, this enables faster browsing. Also the Linux Management Console (another theme) that uses a tree-like navigation. Your server will not act faster, but is certainly looks that way... :-)

I already tried to intsall "Simple Webmin-Theme" but when I enabled it I had to re-install Webmin because I always got Error404 on every page...
But I'll try some other themes and keep you in touch.
Thanks for helping.
PS: maybe it's the port 10000 that causes the slow transfers. Is there a method to change the webmin port?

Yes you can. Go to the Webmin Configuration page and look vor Ports and Addresses. Here you can change it to every port you like. There is no speed improvement though, but best of luck.

Thanks. It might not speedup my webmin but I still think it's usefull.
I now enabled the Simple theme, however it doesn't go much faster.
I'll just have to face the speed :)
Thanks

If you want to run Webmin with Apache/SSL, add
"SetEnv HTTPS On" in step 4.

I have the same problem also.
but i am running a celeron 366
it was alot faster when i was using a duron 1ghz
the faster the cpu the better the results.
but since my server is on 24hrs a day i use the celeron because it has a passive heatsink and is always cool to the touch.
i'm thinking of switching to a via 1ghz when they release the lower power passive version.
i would be pulling my hair out wondering if the fan will fail or not!!

Hi,
I'm running webmin on port 10000 and it's really slow.
My apache server on port 80 is ALOT faster.
Is there anything I can do to solve this?
Greets & Thanks,

I Have the same problem, and don't know why
I'm using port 9000 and 80 for http and it runs faster then webmin on port 10000.
It's all very simple:
The webserver used by Webmin is written in Perl, an interpreted language, and inherently slow.
check http://www.webmin.com/apache.html for instructions on how to run Webmin with Apache.
If you want to run Webmin with Apache/SSL, add
"SetEnv HTTPS On" in step 4.
