Hi,

Is it possible to read the virtualusertable file so that the
read mail console knows what is the default email
address for a user.

Why cant I get the compose funtion to send an email.
Every time i click send it just sits there as if it is doing
something but doesnt do a thing. I have tried everything!
I made sure the settings were correct.. EVERYTHING!

Also the read mail module doesnt look as if it is
designed for a virtual hosting environment. It would be
awsome to get it configurable enough to run in a virtual
hosting environment.

If this is fixed, I would love to have usermin as the client
account settings login. it would be awsome.

About the sending of mail... what SMTP software do you
use? Sendmail? Postfix? Are they configured correctly?

Usermin can be configured to read a separate file that maps
username@hostname to username@realdomain.com for the From:
address when sending mail. To configure this, you need to go
    into
the Usermin Configuration module of Webmin, click on Usermin
    Module
Configuration and select 'Read Mail' . There are options
    there that
make it usable in a virtual-hosting environment , and also
    control how
    mail is sent out.

I got it to send mail properly. I figured out that I was pointing
the Read Mail module to the wrong sendmail program so it
sits there doing nothing. I had it pointed to /usr/sbin/sendmail
    rather than /usr/lib/sendmail.

I still can't get the from address mapping to work properly. I
tried pointing the Read Mail config to the virtualusertable (raw
text) fiile and I would get errors and it wont map properly. I
then tried to use the virtualusertable.db (db file) and it worked
but with one problem. It puts the default hostname in instead
of the users true email address. eg. I have a user called joeb
on myhost.mydom.com and his email address is
joeb@joesco.com. Read Mail wont map to his email address
but will give a from address in the form of
    joeb@myhost.mydom.com (sinse myhost.mydom.com is the
default host in the Read Mail settings)

Is this because there is multiple records for the particular one
user in the virtualusertable? why does it use the default
    hostname?

I hope i didnt confuse you guys.

    THANKS FOR THIS!!

It would be pretty cool if the READ MAIL module could read
the virtualusertable file and then give the user the option of
selecting any one of their valide (live internet) email
addresses to be inside the FROM field. Or the additional
option of using a different FROM address (at the same time).
In other words one drop down box listing all the valid email
addresses that go to their local user account and bellow it an
optional text box that allows you to type (one time only) a
different email address if you like.

You would also want to allow the Usermin user to select
which email address to use as their default from address.

Currently, the file that it reads to find the From address
    is formatted more
like the generics file than virtusertable, but having
    multiple entries for the
    same user could make sense.
If you are still having trouble, have a look at
    http://www.webmin.com/faq.html question 28 .

One final thing. What about if the unix user on a virtual
hosting system does not have an email account.

Could it be possible to make the READ MAIL module not
appear at all in Usermin if the user is not mentioned in the
    generics file?

In the next version of usermin, you will be able to deny
access to modules on a per-user or per-group basis, which
would allow you to hide the Read Mail module from users
    who don't have mail.

It won't make use of the generics file though..

Compose Gives error "Sendmail executable cannot be found"

I am able to relicate the error with a fresh install of usermin,
the configure the "send mail" module. Despite changes made
to defaulkt settings, old settings always show up. If you
change user default settings for send mail, you will eventually
corrupt and get the above error.

The module does by default read the /etc/mail/generics file
    to find
users' From: addresses. You can configure it more using Webmin's
Usermin Configuration module, so that it is suitable for
    virtual hosting.

As for the sending problem, try configuring the module to
    send via an
SMTP server instead of using the /usr/sbin/sendmail program.
