Webmin configuration has a place where you can set the from address that webmin will use when it sends out emails. Where does webmin pull this default address from? For me it is webmin@Quick Foods and it is being added to the from address that Postfix is sending out. for example, I get two from addresses, service@Quick.domain.tld and Fo...@do...d. I need to know where webmin is getting this from so I can fix it. |

Yes, I know I can set a new default. What I need to know is where does webmin pull the default? I have a problem that can be solved if I know where webmin gets that default address from, I have looked in /network and in the host file and it is not listed there. I am guessing that webmin generates that default email address from some configuration file. So if you can kindly tell me which file, I can solve my email problems. The original default is webmin@your-system's-hostname , as displayed by the "hostname -f" command. On 26/Aug/2013 21:13 Kimberly <kim...@gm...> wrote .. > Yes, I know I can set a new default. Something is very strange with webmin then. I am running the latest version. When I issue the command, "hostname -f", it returns the hostname and not "Quick Foods". I see the proper FQD host name of the server as set up by the provider of the dedicated server followed by the IP address of the server. Yet, in the webmin default address, it is webmin@Quick Foods. I am finding this very strange now. This is affecting the mail sent out from Postfix. Emails are showing two from addresses user@Quick.domain.tld and Fo...@do...d. I was hoping that by knowing how webmin picked up the from address for emails it sends out would help be to solve this issue with my server. However, you tell me that should be from the hostname for the server and it is not. I have Dovecot installed and roundcube web client. I am going to uninstall both although I don't understand why they would affect this. Even though this may not be a webmin issue, if you can shed any light on this it would be appreciated. I still don't understand why the from address of webmin would pick up this "Quick Foods" instead of the hostname when the hostname is properly set in the server. What could override it? I do appreciate your help on this. -Kimberly On 8/27/2013 12:31 PM, Jamie Cameron wrote: > When you login to Webmin, what hostname is displayed on the System Information > page on the right frame? > > On 27/Aug/2013 09:03 Kimberly <kim...@gm...> wrote .. >> Something is very strange with webmin then. No, this has nothing to do with Postfix, the words "Quick Foods" are nowhere in the Postfix configuration files. Plus, I was told that Webmin uses the server host name; yet, webmin is NOT using the server's host name. Why? Bingo! Found in: /etc/webmin/mailboxes/config:from_dom=Quick Foods I am assuming that when I set up webmin I must have entered that for some strange reason. I am still learning linux; thanks for the info on how to search for this. I need to send a donation; it won't be much because money is tight. Thank you so much for the help on this. Ok, that would explain it. Normally that setting is used to customize the domain that email is sent from, rather than using the default of the hostname. But why is postfix using the mail config for webmin and not the postfix configuration? This is the second mail server I have set up; the first one was on a server using webmin, with postfix. webmin was set to send from webmin@hostname and postfix was set to send from domain.tld. When I tested Postfix by going to user mailboxes, and then compose, postfix sent the email out as user@mydomainname. Now, with this new server, postfix is using the from_dom= setting. The only way I can get postfix to send mail out with the proper email address, I have to enter from_dom=domain.tld to get it to work. That makes no sense that postfix is using webmin's config and not the postfix config Can someone explain this to me? On 8/27/2013 7:06 PM, Jamie Cameron wrote: > Ok, that would explain it. That setting is only used by webmin - if another program uses postfix to send email, it will determine the from address. Believe it or not, Postfix is using that setting for some strange reason as the from address. What I change in the from_dom is reflected in the from email address of postfix. I am going to uninstall Postfix and then reinstall to see if it fixes it. Maybe this is a bug, or something to do with the latest version of webmin, or the postifx webmin module. Before when I use webmin and postfix, I would set it up and then go to the Users Mailboxes, select a user and then click compose to compose a message to test the mail server, It always sent the mail out using the settings in main.cf of Postfix. Now, I am finding it is using the webmen settings for the from_dom= instead and this is making it hard for me to configure Postfix using webmin. I don't understand what is happening here.
