I am on Redhat 7.3 with Webmin 1.160 and the current Firewall module. The
module works great at first. I created a couple of chains and added rules
to them, saved, made them current and set it to load on restart. All worked
fine. It even seems to coexist well with PortSentry's operation using the
PSDROP chains that were imported, although PortSentry must be shut down in
order to get the Firewall module to open properly in 'edit the save file'
mode. Restarting PortSentry after finishing in the Firewall module is fine.
Adding additional rules to the chains went fine for awhile. However, at the
end of my last edit session I hit save and the page would not reload. It
also apparently did not save and make current the last set of edits. The
module will no longer open in 'edit the save file' mode at all - it times
out every time even with PortSentry shut down. If I change the config to
'edit file directly', the module will open and display the current rules
(including those for PortSentry if it is turned on at the moment). But in
this mode I do not have the options of saving comments or of making my
settings active at reboot.
I have tried rebooting, reinstalling the module and forcing an update of
Webmin with no luck. I finally deleted all rules and chains and started
over. All was back to normal UNTIL I had entered a fair number of rules and
it again locked up.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Either for getting the module
to work consistently or for doing the edits outside the module without
losing the ability to make my changes active at reboot.
Thanks, Mike Ingram
