Subject: Re: sshd config all fouled up & more I've had no problems with the sshd module myself, mandrake 8.0, but, I agree about the manual config... I think a manual config option should be included with many more modules... It's nice to "see" the changes, and, it would be a good learning experience for some newbies to see what the changes look like. Multiple versioned config files would also be a good idea... "revert to saved" and/or a file selection dialog could be added to the ACL and config options for modules... this ability to remove or hide these options would probably be a good idea. Anyone else think this is a good idea? Also, on the subject of multiple config files... I've started using cloned Apache modules to create virtual server/isp control with seperate included vhosts.config files... the normal webmin ACL configs are not as easy to deal with in this case.. ie, I have one friend running his vhosting temporarily on one of my boxes while his is being re-configured... he has 50+ domains and a few people he allows limited webmin access to for them... The cloned module has a seperate vhosts.config file to keep all additions and changes in his own file&home directory. The std. Apache module will make changes to an included file, but, new virtual hosts are added to the main file set in the module config.... hence the cloned module with it's own seperate module config. I doubt that there is reason enough to support this type of configuration directly in the Apache module or ACL lists, but, I thought I would mention the way I did it for the benefit of others maybe trying to give their friends/associates access to their wn "set" of domains (and subset of sub-admins, etc) but wanting to keep their vhosts.config files seperate and clean. The same setup -can- be done with Bind, but the include files are a bit more difficult.... But it does work just the same. On a seperate subject: I would like to see an easier/simpler way to setup fully virtualized servers with webmin... ie. I could give my friend an IP (real or private) on the box and all the services are seperate and bound to that IP for him... It's kind of difficult to do by hand, but I do know it can be done... speaking of which, I'm also searching for a good/easy/free firewall&gateway utility to setup NAT/Multi-NAT. All of the ones I've seen are geared to share one IP with masq. NAT, as the pre 2.4 kernels didn't directly support full gateway mode... I would like to have the firewall accept a -range- of IPs and apply it's firewall & forwarding rules to each of them allowing for both one->many (shared IP for user workstations) and one->one (static-real to private for servers)... The advantages are scalability, load balancing and high availability... ie. it's way easier to deal with private IPs than real ones when switching servers or compensating for server maintenance. A backup server or simple catch all web host with a "Being Serviced" page... For some reason, most of the "heartbeat" and other high-availablility/fail-over services are very difficult to setup, or, rely on outdated methods of server up-checking.. such as serial cables linked together. (Apparently TCP-IP/Ethernet was just "too difficult" for them to use :) It's really nice to have a simple backup web server say "back in a minute" than simply "server not found". -- Adam Goldstein White Wolf Networks pr0ject wrote: >Webmin actually crashed my sshd via faulty config file save. > >I was tooling around, and only changed one option in the config which >allowed only authorized users to login, after saving the config and HUP'ing >via the button provided, I now get this: > >Failed to start SSH server : /etc/ssh/sshd_config: line 60: >Bad configuration option: ReverseMappingCheck >fatal: /etc/ssh/sshd_config: terminating, 1 bad configuration options > >Might I recommend a panel to manually config the sshd_config file? The RPM install went very well and Webmin was up and running. I brought up the login screen. When I attempted to login the browser just sat there and spun. Stopping and starting the webmin service did not solve this problem. I decided to try logging in with a password combination I knew was incorrect. Webmin returned to the login page telling me my password was incorrect. I then changed the password on the (root) account and tried to login again. Still timeouts. Has anyone else noticed this behaviour? Is there a place where webmin logs what might be wrong? Please help!
