webmin on debian 12.2 will not move the "system logs" module from unused modules list.
I needed the features of the rsyslogd and thus installed it on debian 12.2. rsyslogd works properly.
However, the webmin module "system logs" is still living in the unused modules list. Selecting it there works as it should. But performing a "Refresh Modules" does NOT place it in the "System" Menu list. Note that webmin 2.103 on debian 10 works for this rsyslogd feature.
I tried to do the "refresh modules" 4 or 5 times but it did not fix the problem. I also logged in and out 2 or 3 times with webmin without this working.
Then I rebooted the entire computer and browsed to webmin and logged back in to it. NOW IT WORKED! It moved the "system logs" module to the System Menu list.
I don't know why it was broken nor how rebooting could have changed it but it is fixed now.
When you opened the module before refreshing, did it display any error about
rsyslog
not being found?nope!
prior to starting webmin (at this stage) I did an apt install rsyslog.
started webmin but the "system logs" entry did not show in the System.
So I looked in the unused modules and "system logs" was there. I
selected it there and it worked as expected. It just would not "move" to
the System list. Even after a number of refresh modules it did not
move... but it still worked form the unused modules.
I never saw an error... Restarting the computer and then running webmin
"made it work"
strange huh?
once working one can use either the Journaling log viewer or the "System
Logs" that used rsyslog. both work fine.
thanks

Very odd ... let me see if I can re-produce this.
