Hi all

I'm having problems working with domains that contain UMLAUTS (äöü) aka internationalized domain names[1]

I tried to use "Sendmail" -> "Local Domains" (/sendmail/list_cws.cgi) to add a domain containing an Umlaut.

Error message: Failed to save local domains : 'hürlimann-treuhand.ch' is not a valid host or domain name

I also tried to create a Bind slave zone at "Bind DNS Server" - "Create slave zone" (bind8/slave_form.cgi):

Added to the form field "Domain name / Network" following value: hürlimann-treuhand.ch

Error message: Failed to create slave zone : 'hürlimann-treuhand.ch ' is not a valid domain name

Is there a possibility that webmin becomes able to support internationalized domain names?

Best regards
Tom

Update: After i've added the domain manually to /etc/named.conf, the zone was present in the webmin gui at "Bind DNS Server" but i was not able to initalize a test-transfer from the master zone.

There was an error message: /bin/dig: convert textname to IDN encoding: failure

After i've executed the retransfer manually, the zone was in sync.

    rndc retransfer hürlimann-treuhand.ch

    Best regards

    Hi, Tom! ;--)

    Try punycode encoded:

    xn--hrlimann-treuhand-22b.ch

    Internationalized_domain_name.

For your information, Virtualmin (Webmin module) can do it with no problems, and it will add a zone and create many other records in no time for newly added domains. Recommend using!
