Running Ubuntu 16.04.4 (Linux 4.4.0-112-generic on x86_64 or Linux 4.4.0-116-generic on x86_64) with Usermin 1.741 and Virtualmin 6.02 on several different servers in different locations.

When clicking Others > File Manager, the user interface begins to load and hangs - after waiting 5 minutes, user is forced to reload entire page in browser.

This was working in Webmin 1.880

Confirmed ... possible work-around is to switch to the older Blue Framed theme.

    Hi,

I have doubled checked on two systems CentOS and Ubuntu. All is working fine.

Please have a look at the video-screencast.

The only reason why this could be happening is stuck cache.

Could you please open browser's console and go to the theme, hit Ctrl+Shift+R and then try to open the File Manager. Are there any errors.

I made a patch to explicitely update the cache but I was wrong in doing it for the users that go from beta to stable versions, there were also the change that changed the way cache is retrieved.

I will fix that as well and there will be no cache issues starting from 19.10. Meanwhilete just hard reload the page or clear the browser's cache forcefully.

I've just released 19.10-beta3. It will fix all issues with cache on client-side for good.

    Thank you for reporting.

What worked for me was to reinstall the Filemin module - deleted the Filemin module from Webmin config, and reinstalled from the module downloaded from here http://www.webmin.com/standard.html
Refreshed, all working normally within the Authentic theme.

Spoke too soon - still hanging - nothing is working.
Where do you do 'Ctrl+Shift+R'? I assume it is in Webmin, config, themes, current theme page?

Deleting and reinstalling Authentic theme worked, after restarting Webmin.

Unfortunately this only worked temporarily too - seems like there is a bug.
As an extreme, I thought I'd try uninstalling and reinstalling.
However any concerns about all the saved settings? Including backup configurations etc?

@mickc If you open browser's console (F12), and then click on the Other/File Manager, do you get any error there?

I have opened the theme now in Ubuntu Linux 16.04.4 - all works as expected.

The original topic issue was caused by cache and theme's disability to deal properly with updated files. At the moment, this is no longer an issue.

Did you try it in incognito mode (disabling extensions (add-ons)).

What are your PC specs, where you're running Webmin console? What is your browser?

Did you update to the latest Webmin version with the latest theme? What are the installed versions of both Webmin and Authentic Theme (you can find it in the Dashboard).

    @qooob no error in concole.
Latest Webmin 1.890 latest Authentic theme, Filemin
    Server Ubuntu 14.04

    Macbook Pro High Sierra
Chrome Version 68.0.3440.106 (Official Build) (64-bit)

    Incognito does not work.
Clearing Webmin cache has not worked so far.
The only other thing that works is to delete the cookie - then Filemin opens.
After a day (or maybe several hours) it just spins and won't open.

    Thanks

Let's be clear here, are you using Filemin or bundled File Manager?

Could you provide File Manager module screenshot to be sure we're talking about the same module?

File Manager module within Webmin - I thought that it was still called Filmin because it is in the URL

Yes, this is bundled module. All is correct.

I will give it an extensive test on High Sierra.

Any luck? Getting this issue on multiple servers, and deleteing the cookies at least once a day.
    Server is also Ubunti 16.04.
So you think it is a Mac OS issue?

The problem is that I can't reproduce it!

Could you give me the exact steps of how to reproduce it please?

Here goes but I don't think there's any new information here:

    • On a Macbook Pro running High Sierra
    • Several hours after your last session (problem does not appear say within 1-2 hours)
    • Open Chrome, login to Webmin
    • Click Other->File Manager
    • Browser hangs on this link /filemin/index.cgi?path=/&xnavigation=1

That's it I'm afraid - I delete the cookie at this point and it stops the hangning whern I log back in.

Note - I don't get the problem in the previous version where I have not yet upgraded.

NEW FINDING - just tried deleting only the cookie 'file-manager-response-count' and it worked.
    Maybe a clue?

I still don't see why it would happen on your side the way you're describing it.

Okay, I have made a patch that will clear the cookies immidietly after they are used, and will solve your issue.

You can test it by updating to the latest development version of the theme, using theme's configuration.

I have the same issue and the proposed patch doesn't work.

starting (one hit) the file manager hangs up while loading... I need a further (second) hit and the file manger works properly.

Moreover I cannot upload files using the File Manager... same story the uploader hangs up...

However only Usermin is concerned while the file manager under Webmin is working correct.

    Server:
    Debian: 9 latest
    Webmin, Usermin: latest stable
Authentic: latest stable and/or patch solution

    Client:
    Windows: 7
    Browser: Chrome

I'm finding I still need to remove the file-manager-response-count cookie even with the patch applied.
Seems to show the files on the right, but the left hand nav appears briefly, then only the spinner, then another brief appearance, then the whole page is replaced by the spinner.

I think that you are expiriencing some other issue. I dont' think cookies have anyhing todo with it.

It seems that you are the only one who is experiencing it.

It's hard to tell what it is, unless you could provides steps to reproduce it. Try to remember actions prior to that? Any special patches that you installed/did. Any additional extensions that you run on the browser? Extensions can case things go broken. Try browser completely without extensions.

Made another patch to address familiar issue. It would be very helpful if you could remember going from which page it makes it hang.

Install latest update please and tell me if it happens again.

    Did the recent patch help?

  • Mick Collopy

    Mick Collopy - 2018-10-14

Not sure if I'm doing this right - did you mean for me to install the latest dev, inclusive of the patched Authentic them as follows:

Webmin version 1.894 Theme version Authentic Theme 19.20-beta2

    Testing this now.

  • Ilia

    Ilia - 2018-10-15

I meant the very last theme version from the Git. It's okay, you could wait until next Webmin development package.

  • Mick Collopy

    Mick Collopy - 2018-10-15

Yes I've installed the latest dev of authentic - had to upgrade Webmin because it wouldn't let me install into 1.890

Unfortunately File Manager's not working at all now and the old cookies are not visible to delete.
I'll have to revert to prod or another theme to use File Manager.

There's nothing esle to report on steps - nothing more to it than click File Manager to replicate this.
I wish I could offer more insight - do you think it's a server or local issue?
