If one tries to navigate (inside file manager) within a directory tree where an upper level directory contains a "+" (i.e. such as "lost+found") the file manager will strip out the +, gets "lost" and report back an error along the lines of:

"Error: /home/lost found/ - No such file or directory.

Obviously, this makes File Manager unusable in a potentially significant number of use cases.

I first noticed this today on Webmin 1.831 (with Authentic Theme 18.40 )

This is a known issue - the next release of Webmin will fix it.

Are you referring to https://sourceforge.net/p/webadmin/bugs/4896/ ?

Is File Manager dropping other non-alpha-numeric characters?

Just FYI, my issue is with "+" not with "&"

Interesting: I just created a set of directories: /home/this&that/something_new and this is completely navigable with Webmin file manager

    Thank you Jamie!

    A couple questions:

    1. Where are Webmin's "known issues" listed?
    2. I just saw that Webmin also tracks issues on GitHub. Where do you prefer bugs to be reported?
http://www.webmin.com/bugs.html seems to suggest SourceForge is the cardinal location, but as developers move code to Github, that is often no longer true.
    3. Does Webmin have a regular or published release cycle/schedule? Or does it happen as you find "spare" time?

Known issues are tracked here, and on github. I actually kind of prefer github these days, because it has better integration between issues and commits.

We don't have a strict release cycle - it's usually "whever the new verson is ready"

Since you prefer GitHub, would it make sense to update the Webmin website (i.e. http://www.webmin.com/community.html ) to coax people in that direction? [ I'll keep this issue here rather than fracture it. ]

I can't help with coding, but would be glad to help maintain website and docs, should that be of any interest to you.

    Interesting:

I just noticed the "missing +" in Webmin file manager does not seem to affect my LinuxMint 18.1systems but still DOES affect Webmin 1.831 with (now) Authentic Theme 18.45 on Ubuntu Linux 16.04.1

It doesn't make sense to me that LinuxMint 18.1 should not be affected when it is based on Ubuntu 16.04

Does this make any sense to you?

      Wait a minute:

Now File Manager seems to be working just fine. (Including folders with "+" -- although my bookmarks seem messed up -- will check in a moment)

What would account for this? I am still running Webmin 1.831!

Webmin file manager (now) navigates to directories with either "+" or "&" in the name.

However, correctly formed bookmarks to those directories still generate the error listed in the original post in this thread.

Detail: if you create a new bookmark it "works."

However, on restarting Webmin, the "new" bookmark (or any such "old" bookmark) does not work!

This should also be fixed in the 1.840 release.
