What exactly happens when you try to convert unix to samba
users?
Is any error message displayed?

No error message will displayed and no changes have been made to smbpasswd file.
Only with the Version 0.85

Do any messages at all get displayed? Usually when
converting,
a list of users who where or where not converted appears ..
