#1087 Webmin runs but cannot be used

On Suse 8.1. Webmin appears to install ok but invoking
it with https://linux:10000/ produces the following
message in the browser:

An error occured while loading https://linux.10000/
Could not connect to host linux port (port 10000)

Stopping and restarting the webmin server produces no
error messages. On startup the message is received that
webmin may be accessed using port 10000, but it does
not work.

Have you tried the URL http://linux:10000/ instead, in case
webmin is not using SSL mode?
Also, if your browser is running on your Linux box, try
http://127.0.0.1:10000/ in case the hostname does not
actually have an associated IP address in the DNS or
/etc/hosts .
